Truth be told, this is a small family business and we are not experts on plants or anything about home decors. I, RJ, am a Computer Science graduate, UX designer by profession, and my wife, Emma, has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, now a homemaker. But we won’t let it stop us. Just because we’re novices doesn’t mean this endeavor will never work out.
The way we see it is that we can use it to our advantage. As we are new to plants, we have the fresh eyes to find insights about what people experience when they enter this space of “decorating homes with plants”, their concerns, needs, and desires. And from there we can tailor our products and create valuable content.
I have lately grown fond of houseplants, i.e. buying and taking care of them. I currently have 2 large, 2 hanging, and 2 table plants. And I have acquired an urge to go to the plant shop at the supermarket, just to randomly check if there’s a beauty that I can add to the collection. At the purchase point, I get a spike of pleasure in bringing home a new baby. Then at home, I spend some time deliberating where and how to set up the plant, color coordination, the kind that overall improves the feel of the place, and envisioning what other plants to bring in. Every night before I go to sleep I look at each of them and see how they’re doing.
Maybe you can relate to the above, maybe not. But I think there are people who do and we want to be there for them. We’ll be documenting our journey in future posts.
